I’ve taken to wandering down the Thames path in the last month or two. A twilight walk from Chiswick Bridge up to Kew Bridge then home only yielded one decent picture as darkness closed in quicker on the tree-veiled path than I thought it would. This is looking back on Chiswick Bridge, a place I’ve lingered and let my mind wander more and more lately. Anyway this is the last of my ‘nice pictures of 2012 taken before I joined Tumblr’ series. Taken 30th Sept 2012.
Taken from Hampstead Heath, a place I loved when I first came to London, but that I now have a kinda difficult relationship with. This is an early morning on a Friday in late September, I’d been turfed out of the house for the day so it could be cleaned. Wasn’t the easiest day for pictures, the light just washed everything out and made it flat. But this moody scene makes it seem like the cold is closing in, and that suits how I felt. 28th Sept 2012
Leaping ahead (temporarily) from the gradual “best of my year’s photos” theme to the present day, I am bloody thrilled to have finally managed to get some good shots of a cormorant! Not in the Thames but in a canal in Park Royal of all places. Was an adolescent I think, trying out its wings but never fully taking off. Meaning it stuck around long enough for me to get these! 18 Oct
So as this year’s relationship started to fall to pieces I sought out a place where I could relax, somewhere that wasn’t littered with memories of us as a couple. I’d never been to Richmond Park before but was quickly smitten with the place. Finding an almost totally abandoned stream to walk down was nice, but the highlight was finding a small group of stags in a quiet corner of the park. I patiently sat and they eventually stopped seeing me, just wandering around me letting me get some lovely close-ups. Took so many pictures I actually ran down my camera battery for the first time. 2 favourites above. Also, fungus. Yay? 11th Aug.
